SCHMID Group, a global leader in advanced manufacturing solutions for electronics and semiconductors, has signed an agreement with local authorities in Zhongshan, China, to build a new manufacturing campus. This move is a significant step in SCHMID’s growth strategy, as it aims to meet the increasing demand for advanced wet-process equipment in the Chinese market.
The new campus will consolidate SCHMID’s existing manufacturing operations in China, which are currently spread across two leased facilities. By bringing these operations together, SCHMID expects to nearly double its effective manufacturing capacity, thanks to increased operational space, improved layout efficiency, streamlined logistics, and optimized production workflows. This expansion will enable the company to support a higher annual revenue, as Chinese customers increasingly require short delivery times, rapid project execution, and local support.
The investment in the new campus aligns with SCHMID’s long-term “In China for China” strategy, which focuses on serving the local market’s specific needs. The company recognizes that Chinese customers are at the forefront of the global electronics manufacturing industry, driving the demand for cutting-edge technologies such as high-end HDI boards, IC substrates, and AI server boards. By establishing a dedicated manufacturing facility in China, SCHMID can better respond to these customers’ requirements and strengthen its position in the market.
The total investment for the new campus is estimated to be around €11 million, with the majority of the project financing expected to come from local Chinese bank financing on partially subsidized terms. The agreement with the local authorities also includes various development incentives, such as long-term land use rights. Construction is scheduled to begin after the final land transfer and permitting process are completed, with operations expected to start in mid-2027.
CEO Christian Schmid stated that the establishment of the modern, company-owned manufacturing campus is a crucial milestone in SCHMID’s development in China. The investment will enhance the company’s ability to support customers in one of the world’s most dynamic electronics manufacturing markets and provide the capacity needed for future growth.
In conclusion, SCHMID Group’s decision to build a new manufacturing campus in China is a strategic move that positions the company for success in the rapidly evolving electronics manufacturing industry. By leveraging its global expertise and local presence, SCHMID is well-equipped to meet the growing demand for advanced manufacturing solutions and drive innovation in the market.
